In order to bring 2L and 3L students a more intimate networking event, the Student Services Fellows, with the generous support of Dean White, Dean Stearns, and Dean Cox, partnered with various attorneys and judges from the Miami area to create a series of networking dinners throughout the month of September. Each dinner had a different theme based on the attending attorney’s field of practice. A Student Services Fellow attended each dinner to assist the attendees.
Arrangements were made to have up to ten students meet with one attorney for dinner or lunch at a local restaurant. The events were held at restaurants participating in “Miami Spice,” therefore each dinner/lunch had a fixed price of $35 per person (or $22 if the event was held during lunch). The Law School paid for the meals of the attending attorney and Student Service Fellow while students paid for their own meals. Tax and gratuity were generously paid for by Dean White. The Miami Spice participating restaurants were chosen to provide students with an opportunity to enjoy one of the many wonderful restaurants in Miami, while learning more about a specific field of the law and expanding their network.
Students were informed about the dinners through various forms of communication including weekly e-mails, word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter, and the Student Services Fellow’s webpage (www.law.miami.edu/askus).
