Miami Law 3L Team Wins Flag Football Intramural Championship

Every fall, the University of Miami Wellness Center holds their annual intramural flag football league, attracting many aspiring intra-college athletics superstars to the gridiron in an attempt to win football glory. This year was no different, as the University teamed up with Powerade and CBS College Sports to host well over a hundred teams from various fraternities, dorms, student organizations, and the general student population.

In the end though, undergrads, student organizations, other graduate students (including the medical school), and fraternities alike were all forced to bow down to the mightiness of UM Law Athletics. Various UM Law students formed three separate teams (one 2L team and two 3L teams) and rolled through the competition, earning high playoff seeds and advancing in the playoffs to the round of the final eight teams. Of those three, two teams (2L vs. 3L) met in the semifinals, and as has become a de facto tradition on campus for UM Law, the semifinal winner went on to win the overall campus championship.

200941814539693L’s Brian Kelley, Joe Deflorio, Matt Chamoff, Patrick Hoffman, Ron Franks, Mike Reiter, and Raul Tano, along with undergrad Mike Williams and graduate student Jared Husch, dominated all season long, scoring 167 points on offense and giving up only 36. They shut out every team until the semifinals en route to winning the campus championship. As a reward for winning the championship, they earned a sponsorship from the University to compete in the Regional Tournament in Gainesville, Florida the weekend of the 23rd-25th of October. Should they qualify there, they have a chance to play for the National Championship later in the year. Not bad for a bunch of future lawyers.
